The Assignment is to research two orgins of theater. I hope I do this right.

Origin 1: Japan

Resourse

This origin is focusing on the ancient Japanese theater.

Ancient Japanese theater started off from the tradtional rituals and dances performed. This style of dance was known as Gagaku, and is still known and practiced in Japan today. It was created of traditional ritualistic movements with elaborate costumes and stylized gestures.

There are three main traditional drama forms of ancient Japan. Noh, which is an aristocratic form of drama, Kyogen which is a comedic for of drama that usually involves Noh, and Bunraku which is a form of puppetry.

Origin 2: Italy

Resource

I have a lot of interest in Italy. I hope to study abroad there in the future and researching more about it’s culture and as of the past week, its theater origins for IB Drama.

Italy drama started off as a for of architecture and painting which gave the audience/viewers a perception of distance and depth. They used raked stages to help emphasize the depth and distance perception and create a larger illusion of reality.

A play to research for future studies is Sofonisha by Giangiorgio Trissino. It was one of the first important vernacular tragedies. Also, the Italians invented Renaissance Drama, which was created to end med evil practices and to give a break off of the Roman drama traditions.
