On Friday, we got back into our ritual groups to re create our ritual pieces with symbols and limited script. Since it’s the season of becoming ill, yet again our class was pretty bare, so the gathering group had to steal some people from the hunting group.
The gathering group used two objects as symbols; a blue cloth stood for the rising river that resembled time and a net that stood for the prickly bush which resembled the obsticles that we have to try and get around in life.
I have to admit that i didn’t really care for this run of our ritual drama. It was more complex having to reassign roles to the new people of our group and having to re explain our story multiple times. To be honest, I think thats just an excuse though. I had someone in my group who just REALLY gets to me. I just have to learn to cope with it.

The connectivity exercise asks for me to write about three of my journal entries and to compare them. Since I am new to IB theatre, my journal is empty and bare, so I am going to use the exercise used in class this morning.
The basic question is “what are two things that you can compare that is used in theatre?”
My answer is movement and emphasis. When someone wants emphasization, I immediately think of movement. I don’t mean put all your energy out there and make huge distracting movements, you should emphasize the action with natural movements that the audience can absorb and take in as more realistic. Every motion on stage counts, even if you are just walking across as an extra. Even the background people can have their own story, it is up to you to emphasize the proper movement and create a story that you want the viewer to portray.
Movements are a constant through any play. You don’t go to a play and expect to see people standing still and spewing out lines. Another example for movement and emphasis could also relate to the emotion of the character. If the character is depressed, make their movements more drug out and slow. If they are scared, make every movement more suspenseful. A play, in my opinion, is dull without any movement and emphasis.
